New Year, New Habits

It’s that time of year again. New Year resolutions are bound to be on your mind as we approach the new year. Most people want to get fit, lose weight, eat healthier etc. These are all great intentions and goals. New Year is a great time to start a new challenge or goal, it’s a clean slate right?!

But what usually happens a month or so into the New Year? These resolutions are nowhere to be found.

This year I challenge you to make new, measurable HABITS instead of resolutions.

For example, “ I want to get fit in 2019” is an awesome goal. However, there is no action plan attached to that!

What will you do to become fit? How many times a week will you exercise? What kind of exercise? What will you eat? How much water will you drink? How will you rest/recover? What does your sleep look like? What is your definition of fit?

We want to set ourselves up for success and have specific tasks we can do each day to reach our goal of getting fit in 2019.

That’s where the healthy hacks list comes in. I started this a few months back when I was trying to be more disciplined with my routines. And I loved it! It kept me on track and accountable. It’s kind of like a to do list focused on health.

I would write my list the night before in preparation for the next day. The list included tasks I wanted to complete in order for me to feel my best, strive for health and be the best version of myself. It felt awesome to check mark each task off my list at the end of each day. Of course, some days were better than others but I tried my best everyday to accomplish every ‘hack’.

My health goal for 2019 is to:

Feel healthy,comfortable and confident with myself and body through pregnancy. Nourish my body with good fuel, behaviors and positivity for mama and baby.

When Baby arrives, I enjoy the unpredictable joys of motherhood and strive to have healthful and active practices + routines for our family of 3!

This year, I made a ‘ 2019 Healthy Hacks” list to reach my health goals which includes:

  • Exercise 4x per week and incorporate yoga stretching 3x per week

  • Drink one gallon of water per day

  • Eat greens/colorful veggies at 3 meals per day

  • Wake up one hour earlier and use that time to be productive each day, until baby arrives

  • Read a book instead of scrolling social media in the morning and before bed

  • Prioritize my night routine everyday

  • Strive to eat in a way that makes me feel good whenever possible

All of the habits above are achievable, challenging and measurable!

I also wrote a list that includes ways I want to show up in 2019. For example, my list included:

  • I am an exceptional wife and partner

  • I am an amazing mom

  • I am a healthy,active mama and a good role model for baby

  • I fill up my cup first so that I can give others the best version of myself

I think that forming new habits help significantly in reaching our goals and make long lasting changes! Start your healthy hack list for 2019 and continue to write it down everyday until these habits become second nature.
