HOW TO DO THANKSGIVING: MINDFULLY


Thanksgiving only comes once a year and we want to enjoy ourselves, am I right?

I don’t know about you, but I want to indulge without feeling stuffed to the brim, unbutton your pants kind of full!

Read on to figure out how to mindfully navigate the Thanksgiving spread, enjoy yourself and feel great!




EAT BREAKFAST

Start your day with protein and fat! Eggs, avocado and bacon? Sign me up! If you skip breakfast, you’re more likely to be “starving” by the time of the big meal! This leads to over-eating and feeling STUFFED. OR you may have a bunch of snacks/appetizers before dinner, over eat the snacks and then be too full for dinner! Eat some breakfast, have a few snacks and enjoy the big meal!


ONE DAY WILL NOT RUIN YOUR PROGRESS

Guys! This is the biggest tip I have. Thanksgiving comes one day a year. If you go a little crazy, it is not going to ruin your progress or throw you off the track. Don’t do an extra workout or restrict eating the following day to justify your choices or indulgence.  Let go of the limiting belief that you will have to “start over”. Eat and enjoy!



SLOW DOWN

Thanksgiving is about spending time with loved ones, coming together around the table and give thanks. It is about more than just the food! Take your time when eating. Put your fork down between bites, converse with friends and family. This will allow you to eat more slowly and allow your food to digest and satisfy your hunger.



ARE YOUR EYES BIGGER THAN YOUR PLATE?

Start with one plate. You can always go back for more. I know, there are always so many choices and you want to try everything! Put a little of each thing you want on the plate. Really like it and want more? Great! Then go back for seconds.


MIND YOUR OWN PLATE

Try to focus on your own plate. Eat what you want. Listen to your body. Stop when you’re full. Get more if you’re still hungry. Don’t focus on what everyone else is doing. It’s easy to fall into peer pressure of say yes to something out of guilt. Everyone should respect your decisions. Remember you are eating for YOU.
